LESSONS

unlock your inner musician

A musician is not one who plays an instrument, but one who plays music, using an instrument to do so. Flamewood Music’s curriculum is designed to equip the student of music with practical tools—sharpening the ear, making sight-reading meaningful, finding the pulse, unlocking improvisation to improve as a musician—and then, to express that music using an instrument. This is done through courses that approach the material intuitively, covered at the student’s own pace, with the ultimate goal of musical self-mastery.

for the novice

Are you taking your first steps into the vast and wonderful world of personal musical expression? You may well benefit from learning basic music theory before even picking up an instrument. Topics in the course Melody, Rhythm, & Harmony 101 will lay a solid foundation for all that follows in later lessons.

for the acolyte

If you are more acquainted with music theory, already have experience playing an instrument, and/or have been playing mandolin for some time now, you may benefit from more advanced studies. Advanced Melody, Rhythm, & Harmony will go beyond the rudimentary to focus on more advanced scales, mixed and odd meters, chop patterns, modes, and ensemble dynamics.

for the professional

Performing musicians may benefit from Tips & Tricks to hone these skills.
