The Music of
JD Williams
My Artist Statement
With a tremendous love for and connection to music, I follow in the footsteps of my musical forebears, adding my own taste for the eclectic to my more traditional background of Bluegrass and Folk music.
I entered the professional music scene in 2009 when I began touring internationally with Acoustic Americana band Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters, teaming up with my father Roger Williams on dobro, who has been deeply immersed in the Bluegrass music scene all his life. In 2010 I began working with Connecticut-based singer-songwriter Nathan Day.
In 2011 I held my breath and took the plunge, moving to Boston, MA to study mandolin as a Professional Music major with a minor in American Roots Music at Berklee College of Music, where I am now finishing up my final year. Along the way, I’ve also been privileged to perform with Bluegrass ensemble High Rock Mountain, Newgrass/Celtic band Cat and The Moon, my project band The Common Denominators, and many more artists that I’ve had the honour of collaborating with.
Music has a way of uniting people, transcending language and ethnic barriers to promote understanding and peace. As an audible form of art, it has a wide, global reach, and can be a potent force for good. I strive to use the music that I play to make lasting connections, to stir imaginations, and to encourage people to produce their own art in turn, continuing the cycle of creativity and artistry through this universal tool.
